WEST TEXAS (KWES) - A handful of high schools around the Permian Basin participated in Project Celebration, the Texas Department of Transportation Odessa district’s public service announcement contest.
The high schools had the opportunity to create a three minute PSA focusing on various traffic safety elements.
Project Celebration is a combination of education and lock-in events conducted by educators, parents and community partners to help keep students safe and alcohol-free throughout the school year and especially during school-related celebrations.
The goal is to reduce the number of injuries and deaths caused by impaired driving. Annually, TxDOT awards mini-grants (“seed money”) to help school officials, parents and community partners sponsor Project Celebration education activities and lock-in events.
Odessa High School won first place and was awarded $1,500.
Sanderson High School came in a close second and took home $1,250.
In third place, New Tech High School received $1,000. The schools were awarded their checks and can only use that money for graduation festivities.
