WINKLER COUNTY--Stan Wiley has been the administrator at Winkler County Memorial for about five years. He's the same administrator at the center of the nurse controversy last year. Board members had no idea anything was going on, until they found out Wiley had already turned in his keys.
"I really don't know. I don't know why he quit. I don't know what's going on," Winkler County Medical Hospital Board Member, Stefanie Haley, said.
Haley says, Wiley's resignation was news to pretty much everyone. Getting the word out was a job that fell in the lap of the assistant administrator, "They were called on the phone by Keith Palmer and were told that Stan had resigned. I said, did he give any reason? He said, no. I said, when is it effective? He said, right now. He's not here. That was (Monday) morning."
This isn't the first time Wiley had attempted to leave Winkler County. According to Haley, he tried to hand in his resignation a couple of months ago at a meeting she wasn't able to attend, "They voted not to accept his resignation. So, I don't know what the story is."
Board President Bill Beckham tells NewsWest 9, Wiley gave no reason for his actions, other than it was personal. The word around town is, Wiley's already gone.
"Several people said they saw him moving all of his stuff out, during all of last week. I'm imaging he went to Lubbock. That is where he is from," Haley explained.
That leaves the board with it's next task, put an interim administrator in place until they hire a permanent replacement.
"I am hoping to do a head hunt and find a new, fresh administrator who doesn't have to come in to the things that have been going on in this hospital over the last several years," Haley commented.
The things that have been going on, still leave a bad taste in many people's mouths.
"It's never been a secret. I've not been a fan of him since the day he was hired. Of course, if I had my way, I would make Anne Mitchell the administrator," Haley said.
