Volunteers Needed to Help Deliver Hot Meals to the Elderly

Delivering hot meals to the elderly and homebound proved to be a challenge on Tuesday.

Slick streets kept many "Meals on Wheels" drivers home.

Community and Senior Services tells NewsWest 9, they need some backup.

They're asking for anyone, comfortable driving in ice and snow and with a vehicle that can handle those conditions, to lend a helping hand.

"We really need people that would be willing to do that and also be put on an emergency sub-driver list, so we can call them when we get weather like this.  We've got 35 routes that we have to fill, every morning, so we need the drivers," Volunteer Coordinator, Shanda Garner, said.

Meal deliveries in Midland have never been canceled because of bad weather.
