MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland City Council received a presentation about the dire business state of recycling services in the city on April 23.

The presentation outlining rising costs the city faces as it looks to possibly renew a contract with it’s recycling service provider Butts Recycling Incorporated.

Across the country, recycling processors like Butts have been forced to raise prices since China has stopped purchasing recyclables from the United States.

In response to the rising costs the city faces for its recycling services, the Solid Waste Management division proposed two options.

  1. To cancel all recycling services
  2. To propose a $3-$5 recycling fee that would be added on to water bills

Looking forward, the Midland City Council plans on forming a committee to evaluate all of it’s recycling service options.
