Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel in serious but stable condition after suffering brain hemorrhage

Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel remains in serious but stable condition on Thursday after emergency surgery.

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel remains in serious but stable condition on Thursday, a spokesperson told Team 12's Brahm Resnik, after she was suddenly hospitalized for a "health emergency" on Tuesday.

The spokesperson says she was hospitalized on election night with bleeding on her brain after falling and hitting her head at home.

Adel is currently in an election race to keep her seat.

A spokesperson for Adel tells 12 News her treatment is going as expected.

The county attorney's office is currently being overseen by Adel's top deputy, Ken Vick, a prosecutor with decades of experience.

On Wednesday, Adel's family asked for continued prayers.

"Her family is grateful for the outpouring of support and asks for continued prayers for Allister," part of the statement read.

Friends and family on Wednesday told 12 News they are staying positive and hopeful about Adel's condition.

"There is no doubt that her strong will, her fighting spirit, will absolutely help get her through whatever the situation she’s in," said Angela Harrolle.

"To have something like this happen to affect her health so tremendously right in the middle of it all. I just feel for her husband and children.”

Harrolle is the CEO and president of the 100 Club – a nonprofit that helps families of first responders seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.

She says Adel served on the board of directors for five years and she’s one of the most determined women.

"In your life, you should surround yourself with five people to be successful – make sure they challenge you and she’s one of those people," said Harrolle.

“I know that we all will continue to support her and wrap our arms around her and see her through a very successful recovery,” said Harrolle.

"This is understandably a very difficult situation and we ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

Adel is up for reelection against Democrat Julie Gunnigle.

Gunnigle tweeted on Tuesday, "My thoughts are with Allister and her family. We should give them privacy at this moment and we wish for a full recovery."

Adel is married with two young children.
