ODESSA, TX (KWES) - An Odessa man is in jail after being suspected of robbing a thrift store.
Shawn Paul Melonakos, 36, was arrested on August 18 at around 7:23 p.m. for Robbery "2nd Degree Felony", Possession of Methamphetamine "State Jail Felony", False Identification – Fugitive from Justice "Class A Misdemeanor", and for a parole violation warrant.
Officers responded to Door of Hope Thrift Store on East 8th Street in response to a robbery. Investigators found that a male subject had taken merchandise from the store without an attempt to pay.
The complainant at the store confronted the suspect, later identified as Melonakos, he reportedly picked up a large rock and threatened the complainant with it.
The complainant, fearing for his life, then brandished a firearm and fired one round at Melonakos.
After this the complainant and another male subject chased Melonakos to the area of Crescent and Beverly. They then detained the suspect until officers arrived.
The suspect initially provided officers with a false name and date of birth before being identified as Melonakos.
Melonakos was charged and arrested and has since been taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. No injuries were reported in the incident.
