UPDATE: 8:58P.M. - NewsWest 9 has received an update on the grassfire along County Road 60 between Highway 158 and Holiday Hill Road in Midland County. According to Tasa Watts, Public Information Officer for the City of Midland, the fire burned 132 acres. No structures or injuries were reported. Several power poles have been compromised and barriers will be up until they have been repaired. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
UPDATE: 8:12P.M. - NewsWest 9 has learned that two fires were burning along Highway 385 in Andrews County. Andrews Officials tell NewsWest 9, that both the fires were 10-15 miles south of Andrews. One of those fires has been contained and the other fire, which is closest to the city of Andrews, is still burning at this time. Highway 385 remains open. Officials from numerous departments including the Texas Forest Service, Andrews Fire Department, Midland Fire Department and Martin County have responded to the fire.
UPDATE: 7:18P.M. - Our NewsWest 9 crew is reporting that the fire that was burning in northwest Midland is now contained. Crews are currently working on putting out hot spots.
UPDATE, 6:15P.M. - NewsWest 9 has learned that crews in Andrews are fighting a fire on Highway 385 south of Andrews. Officials also told NewsWest 9, there are two other fires that they are fighting.
UPDATE, 5:49P.M. - The Texas Forest Service tells NewsWest 9, that a task force of 3 dozers, 1 engine and six overhead trucks responded at 4:45 p.m. this afternoon to the fire on West County Road 60 in Midland County. The fire is about 200 acres. 30 homes and 70 outbuildings are threatened.
UPDATE, 5:36P.M. - City officials tell NewsWest 9 residents in a group of houses off Briarwood (County Road 60) in the Avalon and Goldengate area, roughly the 6500 block, are being asked to leave. Crews are protecting a group of houses from the fire. D.P.S. troopers have gone door to door in the area to make sure no one is home.
UPDATE, 5:15P.M. - NewsWest 9 has just learned that County Road 60 has been shut down due to a large grassfire at Highway 158 and County Road 60. Traffic is being rerouted in the area. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
UPDATE, 4:58P.M. - Fire crews are responding to a fire off of Highway 18 near Jal, New Mexico.
