MIDLAND - 14 years in prison.

That's the sentence for a Midland man who pleaded guilty in connection with a deadly crash in the Tall City last year.

The trial of 20-year-old Derek Murphy was supposed to begin on Monday.

But before testimony could begin, he made cut a deal that will put him behind bars and on probation for 10 years when he gets out.

Murphy slammed his mustang into the driver's side of another car near the intersection of Haynes and Midkiff last September.

45-year-old Patricia Byrd was killed in the crash.
