UPDATE: Man Shot, Killed by Off-Duty Police Officer at La Bodega Restaurant in Midland

Midland Police say a man was killed inside the La Bodega Restaurant in Midland after being shot by an off-duty police officer. Police tell NewsWest 9 that the off-duty officer was having dinner at the restaurant when 35-year-old Nyocomus Garnett entered the back door of the restaurant's kitchen with a handgun in an attempt to commit an aggravated robbery just after 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

MIDLAND - Midland Police say a man was killed inside the La Bodega Restaurant in Midland after being shot by an off-duty police officer.

Police tell NewsWest 9 that the off-duty officer was having dinner at the restaurant when 35-year-old Nyocomus Garnett entered the back door of the restaurant's kitchen with a handgun in an attempt to commit an aggravated robbery just after 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

We're told that Garnett threatened numerous employees with the handgun before firing several shots inside the kitchen. Garnett later exited the kitchen was was confronted by a Midland Police Department detective who was eating in the restaurant when he heard the shots.

Officials say Garnett refused to comply with the detective's commands and attempted to shoot the detective and that's when the detective returned fire shooting Garnett.

Garnett was pronounced dead on the scene.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
