ODESSA - 69-year-old Ronald Dane Jones, a registered sex offender who lives in Odessa, is now behind bars and facing federal charges. On Wednesday morning, the United States Postal Inspector Service (USPIS), along with the help of local law enforcement, issued a search warrant at his home in the 1600 block of San Fernando Drive.
Neighbors say they were woken up by flash bangs and the SWAT team blocking off their street. According to documents, inspectors with USPIS began investigating a company that made and sold DVD's and films, and most of the videos featured young boys and were marketed as "naturist films from around the world."
The investigation revealed that Jones had bought roughly 53 of these films through the mail and online between 2008 and 2010. According to the report, the videos included nude, prepubescent boys pouring various food productions, such as ketchup and chocolate sauce, onto each other and were wrestling in an inflatable pool.
After taken into custody, Jones admitted to being sexually attracted to undeveloped children and told investigators that he looks at child pornography at least once a week.
Neighbors say they knew Jones was a registered sex offender. He was arrested in 2003 for possession of child pornography with intent to distribute. They say Jones had been living in the same house for over 35 years and was always kind and kept to himself. What made them feel the most uneasy was the fact that there are always kids in the area.
"Kids walk through here all the time because there's a crosswalk right there and there's a crosswalk over there by Peas so they just walk straight down the street," one neighbor said.
Another neighbor, who did not want to speak on camera, said she is heartbroken over the situation because Jones had always been a good neighbor.
