An officer involved shooting that happened Saturday night in Midland ended with the suspect dead. It all went down near the corner of Midland Drive and Neely around 8:00 p.m. Residents and business employees of the area say an incident like that is uncommon in their area.

"All of a sudden, I'm sitting there cooking, and hear pow pow pow pow pow and then a couple seconds go by and a couple more pow's and then all of a sudden all the sirens and everything just going by. We were like man. I knew that was gunshots. Ya it was scary," said Bradley Mace, a local resident.

The deadly shooting happened behind Bill's Bottle Shop after employees reported that the suspect had stolen from the store and was acting suicidal as well as bleeding. It all took place just one block away from a local father's home.

"It was concerning being 100 yards and it was in my front door. It just worried me knowing that it was that close to my place," said Josh Vines, also a local resident.

When authorities arrived the man charged at them with a box cutter in hand. That's when they fired their weapons hitting the suspect an unknown amount of times.

"It's always been quiet around here. Ya know it's just scary," said Vines.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave until an internal review is completed.

"It's good knowing that the police were on top of it and trying to keep everyone safe," said Vines.
