Reeves County proposes a truck reliever route

The alternate route would help the flow of traffic in the Pecos central business district.

PECOS, Texas — Reeves County will hold an open house type of public meeting on May 23 from 4-7 p.m. at Odessa College's Pecos Center to discuss an alternate route for traffic to bypass the Pecos central business district.

"Sustained energy exploration within the Permian and Delaware Basins has caused a dramatic traffic increase within the Town of Pecos City which is disrupting the local transportation system," said Reeves County Judge Leo Hung.

If approved, the project would be designed and built in different phases based on budget and need.

Hung encourages the community to come out, "Public Involvement is an important step in the progress of this project, so we invite all residents of Reeves County and any others who are interested in this project to join us and provide feedback to help the project team identify the locally preferred route for this project which will allow truck traffic to move more efficiently and improve quality of life for residents of the region."

The entire project is likely to apply various roadway types, ranging from a 3-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided roadway, based on expected traffic counts.
