PRESIDIO - In Thursday night's Presidio City Council meeting, citizens were in attendance prepared to speak up about a possible ban on fracking within the city, but after an executive session, comments were kept silent after council members decided not to take action.

"In this part of the state, we're really concerned about our environment, so that was the driving force. We had a chance to meet in an executive session and decided it was probably in our best interest to just kind of let that dog lie," Mayor of Presidio, John Ferguson, said.

Mayor Ferguson says the city does not plan to revisit this ordinance in the future.

Council members also discussed another potential ordinance regulating engine braking within city limits. Some residents suggested solutions such as lowering the speed limit, and added that most communities already implement this rule.

"The problem sometimes is if those trucks are stopping at a major intersection and it's 2 o'clock in the morning, they put on their engine brake and they wake somebody up. If that happens over the course of time, its something that somebody would consider as a nuisance," Ferguson said.

Another issue brought forward by Presidio residents was a revisit of the animal control policy. Mikal Crowder suggested an oversight committee and new regulations that benefit the rural nature of the community.

"I'd like to see a shelter that is activist in a way that it works to find homes for the animals that are picked up and it works with the community and with pet owners," Presidio resident, Mikal Crowder, said.

Council also accepted the resignation of the City Attorney, Steve Spurgin, due to personal reasons.
