A Midland school held their annual Veterans Day program on Wednesday.

Santa Rita Elementary program highlighted the importance of the day by taking students through the different branches of service.

Teachers hope the students will learn what a veteran is and what sacrifices were made for our country.

One teacher told NewsWest9, she believes it's just as important for veterans to know they are appreciated.

"I think it means a lot to the veterans, they've come several years in a row. They're really touched that the children are learning about what they have done and they seem to be most appreciative," said Nancy Wilson, Fine Arts Teacher at Santa Rita Elementary.
