ODESSA, TX (KWES) - One man is behind bars after being accused of swinging a sword at his ex-wife.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were called out to the 1500 block of East 11th Street in reference to a disturbance.

Dispatch reported to the officers that, Mario Banuelos, Jr., 32, was armed with a sword.

When officers arrived, they heard an active disturbance inside the residence and saw a female at window screaming for help.

That's when officers made forced entry into the home and attempted to detain Banuelos.

Police say Banuelos first pulled away from officers and attempted to prevent the officers from arresting him by kicking his feet at them.

Following a struggle, Banuelos was detained and handcuffed.

An investigation revealed that Banuelos came to his ex-wife's home and began to scream at her.

According to the report, the ex-wife grabbed her children and ran outside.

Police say that's when Banuelos placed his ex-wife into a chokehold pulling her over a brick fence and back inside the home, grabbed a sword and began swinging the sword at her attempting to hit her.
