FT.STOCKTON - A Fort Stockton mother is fighting for the health of her children. That's after months without a working heater in her apartment. So, she turned to Newswest 9 for help.

"It gets really cold at night," explained the Fort Stockton resident, who didn't want to give her name.

"My heater has not been turned on all winter," she said.

Since temperatures hit the teens last week, this single mother of four is worried about her new born.

"It's been very cold, my new born baby she's only six weeks, she's already had pneumonia," she explained.

She's been trying all winter living at the Stockton Village Apartments to convince the manager to give her some help.

"She knows mine is broken and every time she says we're waiting on the man to come and fix it. It's been three months already," she mentioned.

It was the same story with her air conditioner last summer.

"The apartment is really run down, it's not very well kept up," she added.

And she wants out. She is hopeful in the next few months she will be able to find and afford a new place. But as she holds her six week old baby, and watches her toddlers play, she worries about the other children who live there.
