Infant Found Dead at Odessa Daycare, Relative Shares Photos of "Gorgeous Boy"

Robbery/Homicide Unit officers were dispatched around 3:20 p.m. to Lorlee's Childcare in the 2600 block of Madera Avenue, according to Odessa Police, and pronounced four-month-old Jeremiah Garza dead upon arrival.

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - An infant was found dead Tuesday afternoon at an Odessa home daycare business, officials said.

Robbery/Homicide Unit officers were dispatched around 3:20 p.m. to Lorlee's Childcare in the 2600 block of Madera Avenue, according to Odessa Police, and pronounced four-month-old Jeremiah Garza dead upon arrival.

The cause of death has not been determined, Cpl. Steve LeSueur told NewsWest 9.

He added the decedent will be transported to Tarrant County for an autopsy.

A relative of the child, who requested to remain anonymous, shared photos of Garza with NewsWest 9 and said she "wants his name to have a face so everyone can see how gorgeous he was."

The four-month-old's parents could not be reached for comment.

Police could not confirm if foul play is suspected or if a medical condition such as sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) has been ruled out.

"It's very early in the investigation," LeSueur explained. "Definitely a very tragic situation. It's being investigated as an unattended death right now."

Lorlee's Childcare did not return calls from NewsWest 9 seeking comment.

Neighbors familiar with the Madera Avenue daycare said "[the owner] is amazing with children" and has never generated "complaints or negative attention" in the past.

Officials confirmed the at-home business has been shut down, as part of standard procedure, while police continue their investigation into Garza's death.

More than 15 officers rushed to the scene, blocked traffic on a stretch of the 2600 block and worked out of a mobile crime lab well past 6 p.m.

Neighborhood children gathered behind the police tape and held hands as they watched investigators collect evidence from the daycare.
