Amazon may build a fulfillment center in San Marcos, pending city approval.

SEATTLE – Amazon announced Thursday it will open a fifth Texas fulfillment center in San Marcos, creating 350 full-time jobs.

The San Marcos City Council approved a tax incentive package for the center in July, which will slash 40 percent of property taxes on Amazon's real estate and 85 percent of property taxes on equipment and inventory for 10 years.

Amazon said in a release the new 855,000 square-foot center will pick, pack and ship smaller consumer items.

The online retail giant has other fulfillment centers in Schertz, Coppell and Haslet, with a fourth under construction in Dallas.

The company previously said it plans to invest $60 million in site preps and construction, which is set to begin in December. Amazon wants the warehouse up and running by Jan. 1, 2017.
