EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Upton County Gas Plant Explosion

A fiery explosion shook a WTG Benedum Joint Ventures gas plant on FM 1555 early Tuesday morning, officials said.

UPTON COUNTY, TX (KWES) - A fiery explosion shook a WTG Benedum Joint Ventures gas plant on FM 1555 early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies, Highway Patrol, firefighters and emergency medical personnel were called to the scene around 12:05 a.m., according to Upton County Sheriff Dan Brown.

No injuries were reported, he confirmed, and officials had flames under control by 3:30 a.m.

Cell phone footage, shot by witness Adrian Ortiz and shared exclusively with NewsWest 9, captured the moments leading up to the explosion, the blast itself and the immediate aftermath.

"The motors inside started whining really loud and the flames intensified [seconds before the explosion]," he said. "It was just a few flames and an orange glow when I first pulled over and started recording... I knew something was going to happen. I just didn't know when. And that's when it just blew up."

Ortiz said he could feel the heat of the flames from nearly half a mile away.

The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion remain unclear, Sheriff Brown said.
