Driver gets ticket for striking bridge at I-20, Loop 250

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Midland Police responded to an accident involving a semi-trailer truck colliding against the overpass at South Loop 250 and West I-20 Wednesday.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, Interstate Highway 20 is open but only one lane on Northbound Loop 250 is open. Southbound LP 250 is completely closed until further notice.

The traffic accident will impact six bus routes and predominately students living in the Westgate Village community and outer areas of the county.

Each of the 6 buses transport 35-40 students each day from Fasken Elementary, Yarbrough Elementary, Lee Freshman, Lee High School, and Midland High School.

The Transportation office is making adjustments to routes; however, we do anticipate delays. We ask our parents to be patient with us as we work to get our students home as quickly as possible.

According to officials, the damage caused by a white, 1998 Freightliner Truck Tractor that was towing a semi trailer loaded with a large silo.

The driver failed to follow the specific route permit which had been obtained for the load, and struck the 15’9” bridge with his 17’ load.

The driver was cited for Overheight vehicle and failure to inspect emergency equipment.

No injuries have been reported.
