BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - The Big Spring Police Department has acquired a new vehicle from the Department of Defense.

The AERV is part of a government equipment relocation program that sends the equipment to law enforcement agencies for civilian use.

This particular AERV will be used by officers to conduct high-water rescues and other potentially-dangerous or deadly situations. It comes to the department all the way from Afghanistan and will be of zero cost to the Big Spring community as it remains the property of US DOD with a value of approximately $658,000.

Big Spring Police Department will have the AERV on display at the 2nd annual First Responders Trunk or Treat at Memorial Stadium on Halloween.
