MIDLAND - Local firefighters are taking part in the Dallas 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Five firefighters from the Midland Fire Department have been chosen along with members from Odessa Fire and Rescue and the Police Department.

On Monday, they gathered together at the Wilco Building in downtown Midland to prepare for the climb.

Only 343 firefighters throughout the state are picked for this event, one for each fallen firefighter on 9/11.

"The main purpose of it is to honor those 343 firemen that died back in 9/11. It's an honor to me, I mean, it's an awesome thing to do. Just to know that you're climbing for one of the guys that lost their lives on 9/11," Captain Jason Cotton with Odessa Fire & Rescue, said.

The event will be held on September sixth.

Firefighters will climb 110 stories.
