ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - A project to upgrade and repair the Farm-to-Market 1936 overpass in Ector County began last week.

A lane closure on top of the overpass will be in place for most of the project, and lane closures on I-20 will shift as work progresses.

Temporary traffic signals are on FM 1936 to help control traffic.

Safety upgrades to the overpass include deflection walls and bridge rails, as well as minor structural repairs and maintenance.

The project is expected to take about five months and at least one lane of the I-20 running underneath 1936 will be kept open.

The project is costing nearly $2 million.
