MIDLAND, Texas — PDS or "Particularly Dangerous Situation" is how the NWS describes the tornado watches that have have already been issued for western and central Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle.  With severe weather likely the rest of the afternoon and moving into Tuesday morning, here's a reminder on how citizens are alerted by the National Weather Service about weather-related emergency situations.

The National Weather Service at the Midland International Air and Space Port reminds that citizens should have at least two ways to receive warnings to stay alert as they are issued.

Meteorologist, Scott Kleebauer with NWS in Midland suggests that you track conditions with television and radio broadcasts, but also recommends the use of NOAA-approved radios and social media accounts.

Scott highly recommends that citizens follow their twitter account, as the local NWS will be posting all updates and warnings via their timeline.

You can follow them with their Twitter handle, "@NWSmidland".

Additionally, the NWS will issue alerts on NOAA weather radios. Weather radios are often battery-powered and will not be affected by power outages.

Most cell phone providers will also push severe weather alerts, they are similar to the Amber Alerts which pop up on cell phones and have information specific to the weather-related emergency in present time.

Of course, the NewsWest9 weather team will be providing around the clock coverage. If you haven't already downloaded our recently updated app, you can do so here.
