MISD school board votes in favor of moving YWLA to Washington STEM

In a meeting Tuesday night, the board voted 4-3 in favor of the relocation.

MIDLAND, Texas — In a meeting Tuesday night, the Midland ISD school board voted 4-3 in favor of moving the Young Women's Leadership Academy to the Washington STEM Academy campus.

The move has been a hotly debated topic among community members and those in the district.

This was the second option the board was deciding between. The first option was to keep the academy at its current location. This move will allow students at Washington STEM to transfer schools or even stay at the Young Women's Leadership Academy.

Board members weighed the pros and cons about the move to Washington STEM before community members came up and said their peace on the matter. Most community members were against the move to the academy.

The 4-3 vote to move to Washington STEM will now go into effect for the 2022-2023 school year.

We will update this story as more details become available. To see how it could impact the district, read the related stories below.
