ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - During their regular meeting, the Ector County Independent School District Board of Trustees voted on several items though the district.

Trustees voted 7-0 to approve an application from Oberon Solar, LLC allowing the company to move forward with a 50 megawatt project in southwest Ector County.

The purchase of a new textbook and records warehouse was approved after trustees voted 6-1.

The new property, at 119 E. 52nd Street, was formerly part of Saulsbury Industries.

The property’s office and warehouse space are approximately triple the size of the current textbook warehouse, and cost $745,000.

Part of that cost is expected to be recouped with the sale of the current textbook warehouse on 10th Street and Golder.

According to ECISD, the current warehouse is out of space and staff spends several hours during the day moving pallets of materials out of the warehouse in order to have room to process them; then move them back into the warehouse at the end of the day.

Trustees also voted 7-0 to approve a revised pay schedule for Substitute Teachers.

The new rates for subs are increased as follows:

  • Short-term, uncertified subs $85 to $100 per day
  • Short-term, certified subs $100 to $120 per day
  • Para-professional subs $8.91 per hour to $9.30 per hour
  • Long-term, uncertified subs $170 to $190 per day*
  • Long-term, certified subs $190 to $220 per day*

*The increases are for all long-term subs, not just those in core subject areas, will begin on the first day of the long-term assignment, and the new long-term daily rate will be paid for staff development days, too.
