Suspect charged with attempted capital murder of police officer following disturbance call

Police were searching for the suspect in the area of Anetta Drive.

MIDLAND, Texas — ‪Midland police were searching for a suspect in the area of Anetta Drive and Thomason Thursday morning.

Officers initially responded to the Days Inn on Wall for a report of a disturbance with weapon. ‬

‪One officer made contact with a person matching the description of the suspect standing near a white pickup truck.

The man, identified as Javier Garza Jr., 31, became combative and attempted to run.

Garza entered the truck while still holding onto the officer before putting the vehicle in drive and accelerating.

As the truck started to move, Garza let go of the officer who fell to the ground.

MPD says the officer fired at the suspect to protect himself. ‬

‪Garza was later apprehended in the 3700 block of Anetta. ‬He has been charged with attempted capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

‪The officer was taken to the ER with minor injuries. ‬

‪The investigation is still ongoing. ‬
