Reeves County hosts public meeting on proposed Truck Reliever Route project

Citizens encouraged to attend and provide feedback

PECOS, Texas — Members of the public are invited to attend a public meeting and provide their comments on the preferred alignment for the proposed Reeves County Truck Reliever Route which will provide an alternate route for intercity traffic to bypass the Pecos central business district (CBD).

The open house style public meeting will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Odessa College’s Pecos Center, 1000 S. Eddy Street in Pecos.

“Sustained energy exploration within the Permian and Delaware Basins has caused a dramatic traffic increase within the Town of Pecos City which is disrupting the local transportation system,” said Reeves County Judge Leo Hung. “Public Involvement is an important step in the progress of this project, so we invite all residents of Reeves County and any others who are interested in this project to join us and provide feedback to help the project team identify the locally preferred route for this project which will allow truck traffic to move more efficiently and improve quality of life for residents of the region.”

A technically preferred alignment has been determined from multiple alignment options. If selected, it would encircle the Pecos CBD and surrounding areas when completed. This technically preferred alternative also includes a proposed loop bisector whose proposed alignment would create connectivity between FM 2119 on the north side of town to SH 17 on the south side.

The full project is expected to consist of various roadway types, ranging from a 3-lane roadway to a 4-lane divided roadway, based on expected traffic counts. The project is expected to be designed and constructed in phases based on budget and need. The public is encouraged to attend this meeting to learn and provide comments on the proposed project, the technically preferred alternative, as well as other reliever route alignments that were reviewed during the study.
