BIG SPRING - A Big Spring Church put off their mission work in Mexico and it's all because of the brewing violence across the border. Now, they're now turning their focus a little closer to home.

"Our former Church in Arkansas was unable to go to Mexico, they wanted a place to go, so we told them we know of work here to be done," Sherry Lindsey from the First Baptist Church Big Spring, said.

So members of the First Baptist Church from Arkansas, Big Spring and Forsan all came together to do mission work in Big Spring, but they wanted to do something that would impact the community.

"Our ultimate goal is that lives will be changed, people's lives changed from poverty to live on day to day basis," Lindsey said.

To change people's lives they decided to work together and help build a women's job core to help single women get back on their feet. They also helped build a hospitality house that will provide a free place for families to stay when they visit their loved ones in prison.

"Alot of times, people and churches are in competition, because we have one goal, one God, it's not about us," Lindsey said.

The projects started at the beginning of the week with more than 120 people lending a helping hand and the supplies have been donated by people in the community. Ultimately, they hope that everyone's hard work will go a long way to help families who need it.
