TEXAS, USA — With COVID-19 cases on the rise across the United States, many people have noticed an increase in price gouging, particularly for items such as water and toilet paper.
However, price gouging is illegal and the Office of the Attorney General can prosecute anyone who engages in this activity after a disaster has been declared either by the governor or president.
High prices alone do not indicate price gouging, but can be an indication particularly on items that appear advantageous following a declaration of disaster.
If you suspect a business is price gouging, you can file a consumer complaint.
For more information on price gouging and how to report it you can visit the website of the Texas Attorney General.
