Marcus Risen joined the NewsWest 9 team in August of 2022 as a Digital Multiskilled Journalist.

He grew up near Houston in Missouri City, TX but later moved to Stafford, TX where he graduated Stafford High School in 2018. In high school he was essentially the school "camera guy", always filming major events at his school such as football games and pep rallies.

While in high school he took a class named "Introduction to Broadcasting" that changed his life forever, making him realize he wanted to pursue a career in broadcasting. He also had the job opportunity to help broadcast his high school's school board meetings monthly for about two years.

He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Radio-TV-Film.

At UT, he was a part of TSTV (Texas Student Television), the only student-run, student-produced, FCC-licensed, digitally broadcasting college television station in the country. There he was a member of TSTV Sports all four years where he was a producer for various shows and was the Sports Director his senior year.

While at TSTV he had several opportunities to cover games and appear on camera as a sports analyst. While being Sports Director he executive produced and directed one of TSTV's longest run shows, "College Crossfire", a sports debate show.

Marcus likes to watch TV and movies, as well as edit videos, being a former film student. If Marcus had one main passion in his life it would be basketball as he's loved and studied it since he was a kid.

Marcus can't wait to learn more about the Permian Basin and further his career in Midland-Odessa.
