Come meat up at the West Texas BBQ cook-off

The Odessa Parks Office is hosting a community BBQ cook-off February 15-16 at American Legion.

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The Odessa Parks Office is hosting a community BBQ cook-off February 15-16 at American Legion.

The three meat categories are ribs-pork spare ribs, chicken-2 chicken halves and brisket-sliced brisket.

The entry cost is $25 per meat for a total of $75, but all meat must be inspected before preparations start Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. where cooks can start claiming their spots.

Meat turn in times are as follows:

  • Chicken (1 Half Chicken) - 12:30 p.m.
  • Ribs - 1:30 p.m.
  • Brisket - 3 p.m.

Individual category winners can receive trophies for 1, 2, and 3 place.

However, to be a Grand or Reserve Champion contestants must compete in all meat categories.

Only 20 available spots, but registration doesn’t end until the lineup reaches full occupancy. Applications can be found at the Odessa Parks Office.

The organization accepts cash and checks must be made out to Odessa Parks Foundation.

A cook meeting will be held Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. to discuss about the event.
