Hobbs Man Killed in Oilfield Accident

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - A 31-year-old Hobbs man has been killed in an oilfield accident in Eddy County.

Eddy County Sheriff Earnest J. Mendoza says the accident happened Friday at an oilfield about 11 miles west of U.S. 62/180.

Mendoza says a crew from Mesa Well Service of Hobbs had been working on a well owned by Chesapeake Oil Company.

He says a piece of well equipment blew off due to high pressure, striking the Hobbs man and causing massive injuries.

The name of the victim is being withheld until the family is told.
