MIDLAND - When Midland received a gift from its sister city in China no one could of imagined that gift would become a hot topic of debate, but the pagoda located in Beal Park near Loop 250 and Highway 80 has suffered so much damage.

Just last summer, it looked like it would be too expensive to repair it, but the project is back on the table.

Midland Community Services tells NewsWest 9, the current pavilion is too expensive to repair.

So instead, this summer they'll bring five Chinese artisans to re-create the pavilion in Windlands Park, across from Midland College.

The total cost for the project is $80,000 and will be paid by using funds from previous bonds.

The city hopes the new highly visible location will prevent future vandalism.
