Fire Continues to Burn South of Alpine

BREWSTER COUNTY - A fire south of Alpine is only 30 percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon.

The Texas Forest Service continues to battle the blaze along with units from Fort Davis, Alpine, and Marathon.

The fire is threatening the subdivisions of Double Diamond and Del Norte off of Highway 118. The Texas Forest Service tells NewsWest9 that over 800 acres have burned.    

Texas Forest Service Officials say the flames were started were started by a propane burner sometime on Tuesday.

Officials also say several aircraft from the Texas Forest Service have been a big help in containing the blaze.

Several families have voluntarily evacuated the area, but have returned home as of Wednesday afternoon.

30 homes have been directly saved thanks to efforts by volunteer firefighters from 5 different stations.

No structure fires or injuries were reported.
