Controversial Carlsbad Billboard Covered Up

CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - A billboard advertising beer has been covered up after raising the ire of Eddy County's anti-drunken driving program.

They were concerned that Carlsbad could get a bad name from the billboard outside of town. It read, "Bud Light. Our Kind of Town."

Eddy County DWI program coordinator Cindy Sharif had said that although the billboard didn't mention Carlsbad, it sent the wrong message about the community. The general manager for L&F Distributors, a wholesaler for Anheuser-Busch, says the billboard was covered up Monday.  Russ Greene says that was done in response to concern from the community.

Last week, a member of the DWI program dressed as the Grim Reaper and stood in front of the billboard to protest its message.
