Work Begins to Repair Presidio Levees

PRESIDIO - Flood ravaged levees in Presidio will soon be getting a major makeover.

The US Section of the International Boundary and Water Commission has awarded a Snyder company $2 million to begin repairs.

The levees in Presidio and across the border in Ojinaga, Mexico were heavily damaged back in September by flood waters on the Rio Grande.

The work will be on a two mile section of the levee from Cibolo Creek to the railroad bed. This portion of the levee is critical for protecting Presidio from future floods.

Last year, Congress appropriated $37.5 million to the International Boundary and Water Commission for Presidio levee work. The IBWC is also coordinating with Mexican officials on long-term improvements to flood control projects.
