Staff Report
NewsWest 9

HOWARD COUNTY - We're only a few weeks into the new year and already the Howard County Sheriff's budget for the entire year is more than halfway spent.

Sheriff Stan Parker tells NewsWest 9 their total budget is $35,000, of that, they've spent $18,000.

He says its diminished based on a change in the jail employee shifts.

They've moved from eight to twelve hour rotations.

Plus they've been sending so many inmates to other area facilities; the travel has racked up extra overtime hours for employees.

Sheriff Parker tells NewsWest 9, when the new jail is completed on April 1st that will balance out the budget for the rest of the year.

He believes in the end, they'll come out just fine.
