President Bush Returns Home to Thousands of Supporters

MIDLAND - President Bush and First Lady Laura returned home to Midland Tuesday afternoon to thousands of cheering supporters.  

The now-former President and First Lady flew directly from Washington to Midland and then drove to downtown Midland where and estimated 30,000 people had gathered.  

Mr. Bush spoke to the crowd for about thirty minutes and recalled his time in Midland and Washington.

Mr. Bush thanked the city for giving him a great start in life. He also spoke about this future plans in Dallas.  

Mr. and Mrs. Bush shook hands with people in the crowd before heading back to Midland International Airport. They then flew to Waco and will spend the night at their ranch in Crawford.  

Thousands of West Texans lined up for hours to get into the welcome home event - many were dressed in red, white and blue.

Political leaders like Governor Rick Perry and Representative Tom Craddick were in attendance was well.  

Several big name country bands entertained the crowd and the Chuck Wagon Gang from Odessa served up thousands of hotdogs.
