AUSTIN - After almost two years of scandal and reforms, a State panel has recommended a big change in the Texas Youth Commission.

The Sunset Advisory Commission in Austin in a near vote pushed to create a new Texas Juvenile Justice Department.

That means the TYC and the State Juvenile Probation Commission could soon be one organization.

Lawmakers have said the TYC is in need of some major restructuring.

State advisors tell NewsWest 9, allegations of a sex scandal and reports of abuse at the Pyote School didn't help the TYC's case.

From here, the recommendation will go to the Legislature for possible changes and a final vote.
