MIDLAND - The screens were dark Friday at Hollywood Theaters in Midland after a batch of unwelcome moviegoers arrived. Managers closed their doors as they deal with what they're calling a mice infestation.

Members of the Midland Health Department spent Friday afternoon helping clean up parts of the theater after discovering mice near the front exit. Managers closed down Friday, but they said they hoped to have it open Saturday. In the meantime, Midland residents had to change their plans when they found out what was going on.

"We can't get in right now," Sherrie Click, a Midland Moviegoer, said.

There was plenty of confusion to go around the Hollywood Theaters parking lot. A Friday night, and no tickets for sale.

"First thing, I want to know why," Bobby, another Midland moviegoer, said. "Because bad, good, or indifferent, and from the sign there, it just says closed for repairs."

"Temporaily Closed For Repairs" read one sign outside. In a statement, owners told NewsWest 9 they voluntarily closed because of a pest infestation. Specifically, a mice problem near the front exit.

"If it's pest infestated, I think that's a serious worry anyway," Bobby said.

Not just a worry for some:

"This is our big night to go on our date," Gary Click, another Midland moviegoer, said.

It also meant a change in plans for couples like Sherrie and Gary.

"We've been married for three years, but this is date night for us, so I guess we have to go to Odessa to see the movie," Click added.

Many we talked to agreed, they hope the movie theater will reopen as soon as possible.

"Just hope they get it taken care of, so we can see the movie," Sherrie Click said.

Managers said they have worked aggressively to clean up the problem. They hope to have everything back open Saturday.
