AUSTIN - Its official, Midlander Tom Craddick is no longer Speaker of the Texas House.
State lawmakers voted in Republican Joe Straus from San Antonio on Tuesday.
Craddick dropped his bid for a fourth term when both Democrats and Republicans joined together to oust him.
Meanwhile, the 81st Texas Legislature is officially underway.
State lawmakers plan to take up a number of pressing issues during these difficult economic times including the state budget and hurricane preparedness.
The budget is especially pressing, it's predicted the state will lose 9 billion dollars in revenue over the next 2 years.
Both the House and Senate are controlled by Republicans.
