Flaring to Begin as Flint Hills Shuts Down Units

ODESSA - Flint Hills Resources will shut down some of its units beginning this weekend, which could result in increased flaring to safely eliminate hydrocarbons from the activity.

As systems are shut down over the next several days, neighbors may notice flaring or hear noises not typically associated with the plant's regular operations. If flaring is significantly greater than expected, the company will request the City of Odessa to use its reverse 911 call down system as a courtesy to immediate neighbors.

These units are being closed permanently and shutdown will be completed in a safe and systematic manner.

Flint Hills Resources announced in November 2008 plans to permanently close the facility in 2009. The company currently expects all units to be offline some time in June.
