ODESSA - If a run-down, vacant home in your neighborhood is becoming an eyesore, you can do something about it.

Open doors, broken windows, tall weeds growing around a house, those are just some of the requirements for a house to be torn down.

The City of Odessa demolishes around 70 homes per year.

Those homes are just broken down; they're also causing problems in the community.

"There is so many illegal activities that take place in these vacant structures, there are fires that are set in there," Darlene Mays with Neighborhood Development Services, said.

If you live near a house that is vacant and believe it is unsafe for you or the neighborhood, call the City of Odessa at 335-4820.
