PERMIAN BASIN - A mystery shopping scam is popping up in mailboxes across the Basin.

Fake checks, between $3,800 and $4,200 dollars in value are being sent in the mail.

The checks look real with legitimate business names, addresses, and routing numbers.

It looks like the checks are asking you to become a mystery shopper.

The checks say they're "required funds to cover your assignments."

The Better Business Bureau warns you to be suspicious of any checks from someone you don't know.

If you cash the fake check, you will be responsible for the money you spend.
