WEST TEXAS - It's an extra pair of eyes in the sky for the Department of Public Safety this holiday weekend.

D.P.S. will be using their airplane this weekend to crack down on drunk drivers.

But that's not all they're looking for, they will also be keeping an eye out for stranded motorists and reckless drivers.

According Trooper Barton, the aircraft will not only helps them cover a wider range of area but also helps them respond to emergencies faster.

"If they see something that is happening or stranded motorists they can get that information to us a lot sooner than it would be if we just drove up on them or someone else called," Trooper John Barton with the Texas Department of Transportation, said.

The D.P.S. airplane will be patrolling along the Interstate 20 as well as some State and County Roads in the Permian Basin.
