"We are just looking for dog today. They are having this special two for one deal," Johnny Elrod, says.

Thursday started the 12 Days of Christmas at the Midland Animal Shelter.

Many barking dogs, a couple of meowing cats, and one lone bunny are all available for adoption.

"It's the first time we are trying it runs Dec 11 through 24 and basically it's a two for one adoption," Paul O'Neill, Director of Animal Services, said.

Johnny Elrod and his brother taking advantage of the special and taking home two puppies.

"They are males and they are gorgeous pups, they are clean, bathed, and hopefully we will get them trained soon," Elrod said.

The shelter will also giving a prize away for each day until Christmas Eve like free micro chipping and rabies shots.

"It is 35 dollars to adopt plus an additional 22 dollars if they are over three months of age for their rabies vaccination and their city license," O'Neill said.

O'Neill warned that pets don't always make the perfect gift, especially if it's a surprise.

"We don't allow people to adopt for someone else you have to be present to adopt an animal."

However, for Johnny and his brother two new puppies for Christmas is a priceless present.

"We came out here and saw them and we just fell in love with them," Elrod said.
