Inmates to Receive Training at Midland College

MIDLAND - Inmates in Midland County could soon come out of jail with a technical certificate instead of a rap sheet.

Midland College announced that they will be teaming up the county to provide technical training in the new jail.

The classes range anywhere from welding, building trade, and diesel mechanics to the culinary arts.

School officials hope the training will reduce the recidivism rate in the county and prepare the inmates to become active members of society. The classes will be offered to all inmates serving time for misdemeanor crimes.

In order to participate, the inmates will first be given a test to determine their basic education and then have to prove a thing or two.

Midland College officials expect for the inmates to finish their training before they are released. They will spend the next six months testing possible candidates for the program.
