Andrews County Judge Appointed to State Commission

The Compact Commission was created by the Texas Legislature to oversee the disposal of low-level radioactive waste.

ANDREWS - Andrews County Judge Richard Dolgener has been appointed to the State Compact Commission by Governor Rick Perry.

The Compact Commission was created by the Texas Legislature to oversee the disposal of low-level radioactive waste.

Federal law requires states to be responsible for the disposal of low-level radioactive waste generated within their borders. Texas and Vermont are in a compact agreement to dispose of waste generated in Vermont at a Texas facility. The Compact Commission will oversee the operation of that facility.

Judge Dolgener said in a news release that is critical that residents of Andrews County have a voice on the commission. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is considering granting Waste Control Specialists a final license to dispose of waste at the company's facility in Andrews County.
