MONAHANS - Identity theft and mail fraud will cost a Monahans woman her freedom.

54-year-old Elizabeth Casey spent the last three years collecting mineral royalty checks from oil companies after she illegally transferred the rights at the County Clerks office.

Casey used the U.S. Postal service to send off the paperwork to area oil companies to start cashing checks.

Ten people in Ward County lost an estimated $20,000.

The scheme caught up with her on Tuesday when she plead guilty in federal court.

Casey will spend at least two years behind bars and must pay all the money back.
